In 1609, the Half Moon sailed into the mouth of what would be called the Hudson River in New York State. Henry Hudson and his crew were met there by Native Americans.
The river became shallow. This was not the Northwest Passage. On October 4, he sailed back into the Atlantic Ocean. He headed to England and not Amsterdam. Hudson did not want to face the Dutch. He had disobeyed orders.
Henry Hudson and his crew attacked a Native American village along the Hudson River. He took two natives as prisoners.
